Overview:

We recently wrapped up a new edition of the Ronald McDonald House Charities Central Indiana's magazine, Heart & Hearth, and there are a few things we want to say.

First, working with this organization is a total treat. The stories we have the privledge to hear (or in our case, read while we're placing text!) are incredible. The amount of impact the RMHCCI has is so evident throughout the pages of the magazine, and we love that we work with them. Full stopp.

Second, we love that RMHCCI uses their magazine to do double duty, because it's also their annual report.

What non-profit organizations really want is an annual report that gets read. And let's be honest: very few people are waiting to curl up on the couch with an...annual report.

But a magazine? That's something you're excited to flip through, because there's usually a story or two that pulls you in.

That's what this particular magazine does. It pulls you into a family's story. Or a person who was a founding benefactor or volunteer. They've got the data as well, but it's just a part of the overall story. Not the main event.

RMHCCI did a great job of doing what we always tell clients who come to use for annual and/or impact report design: tell the story of the people in your organization. The ones that are impacted by your services. The ones who DO the impacting through volunteering or donations. RMHC Central Indiana has SO many of these stories. In this issue, we get the story of Nanci Likens, whose bequest before she passed away furnished three sleeping rooms, told through her husband Carney.

We also get to see the Whetstone family's ten weeks in the NICU. Another story talks about an ordinary day in the Family Room, from the morning coffee to the last reheated dinner.

By the time you reach the pie charts and the donation numbers, you already know the experiences that get funded. And that's the coolest part of this magazine. Oh, and the design is pretty great, too.

A huge thanks to my friend Jenna Slesinski, the Marketing & Communications Manager at RMHC Central Indiana, for giving our team the opportunity to work with this organization over the last few years!
