Overview:

One of our favorite kinds of projects is the kind that looks simple when it’s finished… but absolutely was not simple while it was being made.

Case in point: the "Mission Wall" art installation we designed for the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro’s main office.

On paper, the goal was straightforward: blend their mission, the joy of what the Clubs deliver, and the heart of the kids they serve into a hallway installation that felt cohesive and welcoming, without overwhelming the space.

In practice, that balance is a very fine line. Too much color, and the walls feel like they're shouting. Too much copy, and it becomes visual noise. Too many photos, and the impact gets dulled.

So this project became the kind of design puzzle we love: carefully calibrating brand elements, photography, typography, and negative space so the wall felt like an invitation rather than an information dump.

Every decision came back to restraint. The Clubs are already vibrant. The kids are already expressive. The mission is already powerful. Our role wasn’t to amplify for the sake of amplification—it was to frame it in a way that feels intentional and sustainable. Something the San Leandro team could walk past every day, not get sick of, and still feel connected to.

When our contact at San Leandro sent photos of the completed installation, we knew we had landed it. It doesn't feel overdesigned, or trendy. It just feels like THEM. And for us, that's the metric that really matters.
