Overview:

The Education Trust-West advocates for California students' educational justice and academic achievement, particularly students of color and those living in underserved communities. They came to me to create their Jumpstart report, which analyzes the equity of dual enrollment programs in California high schools and community colleges. The report focuses on Black, Latinx, and Native students and shares specific recommendations on remedying systemic issues across school systems.

I honed in on two things with this project: data clarity and reusability. There was a lot of research and information in this report, but not everyone can easily digest pages on pages of tables. I designed with equity in mind, creating clear visuals so that everyone could grasp the report. The visualizations I implemented also helped create a clearer picture of what is happening in these schools – for example, you can see how many schools adequately represent Latinx students. This approach really helps simplify the message and ensure that the audience understands what EdTrust West is reporting.

I also designed the report with reusability in mind. I wanted to make sure that EdTrust West could pull images and infographics directly from the report as social media content. This way, the report lives beyond itself, and EdTrust West multiplies its reach!
