Closing the Gap Report
Overview:
"Closing the Equity Gap in School Staffing" is a report by Partnership for Los Angeles Schools that provides recommendations on how LA Unified can address staffing shortages for students of color and underserved schools. It couldn't come at a more critical time, there are teacher shortages across the country, and LA especially struggles to find qualified staff that represents the student body equitably.
When I designed this report, I wanted to visually illustrate the magnitude of this problem, so I went all-in on data visualization. I didn't want the audience just to read numbers in a table; I wanted them to have an aha moment. When the report mentions teacher vacancies, there are outlines of people. There is engaging iconography throughout and pullout quotes that help the reader better understand the content. The equity gap affects real people, not just stats and numbers, so I used design to humanize the report.
