Reading Reimagined - Website
Overview:
Reading Reimagined, an initiative of the Advanced Education Research and Development Fund (AERDF), was created to address one of education's most persistent challenges: why so many students struggle to become proficient readers beyond the early elementary grades. After years of research, collaboration, and innovation, the initiative reached its conclusion—but the work itself was far from over.
As Reading Reimagined transitioned its research and resources to the broader education community, the team needed a website that would do more than simply archive reports. It needed to become a lasting destination where educators, researchers, district leaders, and policymakers could understand the initiative's findings, explore its resources, and continue building on its work.
Our team partnered with Reading Reimagined to design and develop a digital experience that makes complex literacy research approachable and useful. Rather than organizing the site around a collection of publications, we focused on creating intuitive pathways that help visitors understand both the challenges the initiative set out to solve and the evidence behind its recommendations. The site balances storytelling with discoverability, allowing users to move seamlessly between high-level insights and the underlying research, frameworks, and tools.
Throughout the project, accessibility, clarity, and long-term sustainability guided our approach. Because the website would continue serving the education community after the initiative concluded, it was important to create a platform that could preserve years of work while remaining easy to navigate and maintain. Every design and development decision was made with that long-term purpose in mind.
Today, the Reading Reimagined website serves as the enduring home for the initiative's research and resources while highlighting how its work continues through new programs and organizations, including Magpie Literacy. Instead of becoming a static archive, the site helps ensure that years of research remain accessible, understandable, and actionable for the educators and decision-makers working to improve literacy outcomes.
Projects like this remind us that effective digital experiences aren't just about presenting information—they're about helping people use it. When thoughtful research is paired with intentional design and technology, it becomes far more likely to inform decisions, shape practice, and create lasting impact.
