Overview:

I recently put the finishing touches on a new logo for The Education Trust-West (ETW) for their CORE (Community Organizations for Racial Equity) Collective.

I have to say: I love the idea behind the CORE Collective. This is a group of like-minded, California-based community organizations and civil rights groups that ETW partners with on a regular basis, and together they're advocating for stronger policies and practices that will expand K-12 and higher ed opportunities for students of color and low-income students.

It's that feeling of unity that I wanted to convey with the logo design. In the concept, the outer rings resemble tree rings/interlocking pieces that weave together, visually representing the organizations coming together and working in unison. The point was to signal strength in bond without sacrificing the distinct elements of the groups and organizations themselves.

It's a simple design, but one that's also familiar and warm. It also exudes strength and establishment, which is an outcome that ETW hopes for as they select members to become part of the collective. There's also the symbolism of the bounding graphic. The angles point diagonally, which ETW appreciated as it could represent emergent strategies within the ecosystem itself.

As always, a huge thanks to ETW for trusting me with this visual work. I've been partnering with them for several years, and I so appreciate the importance they place on having a strong visual identity, especially when it comes to the work they're able to elevate with the help of their many partners.
